Our Mission

YOUmatter is a student-led group at the University of Minnesota -- Twin Cities working to improve mental health awareness on campus and reduce the stigma surrounding open mental health conversations through:

  • facilitating positive conversations on mental health topics

  • building a community for our members and campus, creating a support network

  • broadcasting resources for mental health improvement at various levels

47.9% of students at the UofM report having been diagnosed with at least 1 mental health condition, but you wouldn't know it from talking to them. The stigma surrounding mental health conversations makes it difficult to open up to your friends or the possibility of help. YOUmatter is working to end this stigma and raise awareness through public conversations and events that open people's eyes to the prevalence of issues on campus.

YOUmatter's meetings, member events, and community functions are focused on mental health improvement of our members and campus community. Our events focus on personal and campus-life improvement. Some meetings are fun, informational, and interactive (like yoga or local volunteering), while others are fun, informational, and build comradery (like our member grill out). There's always a place for you here, and we hope to see you soon.

Resource awareness

Help is out there. It can be hard to find, and it's tough to reach out. YOUmatter promotes campus and/or community resources for the whole spectrum of mental wellbeing. Our resources range from stress-relief activities to support groups to immediate intervention. We match people to the level of help they're looking for. Getting to where we want to be, one step at a time.
